Best Cut of Steak to Grill

What is the best cut of steak to grill? The answer to this is highly subjective. This is our ranking of our top 5 favorite steaks to grill, so they may not be the same as yours  it is just our personal preference. To determine the best type of steak the main factor we consider is flavor, we also took into account the cost and ease of grilling and preparation for each cut of beef.

#5) The Strip Steak aka NY Strip

The strip steak is one of the leaner cuts so it is difficult to find a well marbled piece. If well marbled and cooked properly they can be as juicy and tender as a filet. Since they have a low-fat content they are difficult to get it grilled right every time. That and the fact that it is second in price per pound to the filet lands it at number 5 on our list.

#4) Sirloin Steak

A sirloin steak takes flavors really well which makes it great if you want to add more than salt and pepper to it.  It is inexpensive, easy to find a nice cut and grills up nicely.

#3) T-Bone and/or Porterhouse

Part filet and part strip steak the T-bone and Porterhouse are considered by many to be the best steak around. They are difficult to grill well every time though.

#2) Filet Mignon

The filet makes number 2 on the list because it is the most expensive cut of steak and it is hard to find a nice well marbled steak. It is the most tender cut of beef and it is simple to cook and get right. This is mainly due to the fact that in general they are cut thicker.

#1) Ribeye aka Delmonico

At number one the ribeye I consider it to be the king of all steaks. Typically less expensive, it is easy to find a nice well marbled cut and that extra fat adds a nice flavor. They can also be found with or without the bone. When grilling you will need to watch for flare-ups other than that it is a straight forward cook. For a perfectly grilled ribeye just add Lawerys seasoned salt.
